An actual green destionation spot
Green all the way
This was actually a trip, that had to be made, because it was one of the few left available locations where we could go and use our vouchers. Again, it was our first trip together to somewhere else than our beloved northwestern Slovenia. This time we explored Slovenia in the north-east, the Štajerska region, quite close to the oldest city of Slovenia, Ptuj.
The destination was again, a family run glamping site, but our accomodation was a lovely shepherd’s cottage, handmade by the ownner himself, exclusively from all natural materials.
First impressions:
Is this really going to be as private as we wanted it to be? Lovely welcome, nice owners. Very green location.
How are our stay actually went:
From the beginning as we made a call to make a reservations, it was all really… hm… confusing. Note: read everything. The man on the other side of the phone said: okay, you are welcome to come, no problem, anytime you want. Luckily, we are used to going with the flow and this is exactly what happened. Before arriving there we did not expect it to look like it then actually did. It is a glamping site, with a few glamping pods, a shared kitchen and bathroom facilities and on the edge of the pitch there is this interesting little house, that looks a bit old at first sight. As we arrived, we were invited to the shared eating area and served a welcome drink. The owner told us little bit about the place and then walked us over to the shepherd’s cottage. He seemed really proud of it and showed us every corner that he all built by himself from scratch with all natural materials, such as wood and dry hay. The cottage has its own bathroom and toilet and this an experience itself -you should definitely try it out yourself.
Our impressions were mixed at first, from it being a little dark but interesting at the same time. They are very open to their guests’ wishes and as the glamping didn’t have any guests at the time we were staying there we actually took advantage and made some special wishes that were abided by. We got our breakfast made and brought in to a lovely basket to the cottage door, instead of eating it in shared dining hall. And we got to use a barbeque so we made us little picnic in the backyard of the cottage where you can also find a hammock (or two).
The cottage is really an interesting place to be in. We especially loved the bedroom upstairs, it is a lovely and quiet room. The sleep was great.
The vibe of the cottage is little vintage, very natural with a slight vibe of an old castle.
Although impressed by the cottage we also enjoyed some walks and bicycle rides around the area.
Overall experience:
Despite the first moment of confusion, we loved it. The site is amazing, the owners really made all the effort they could, once we were there to make us feel as comfortable and welcome as possilble. They were very eager to tell us about all the amazing places we should visit and local restaurants with have tasty food. At the end of our stay, we also took time to chat a little with them and they told us a little bit about their family and how they started the glamping and tourism. We recommend it!
