Kuzma Homestead is a popular camping spot by the Kolpa River. It’s a favorite among locals and tourists, and they are happy to host various groups, camps, team-building events, and similar activities.

After our initial one-night stay experience a few years ago, we decided to visit the estate again. And we were justifiably excited about the visit, as we knew what to expect.

It’s a place in the middle of a meadow, surrounded by forest, right by the slow flow of the Kolpa in its typical forest moss color. There used to be a mill and a sawmill next to the homestead and this is also where most swimmers gather. The whole experience is very primal, from the grounds themselves to the fact that there are no proper sanitary facilities (except for portable toilet units), and for showering, you’ll have to use your imagination. In return, you can order a cold beer, Turkish coffee, or a snack like pizza on the homestead’s terrace.

The estate aims to preserve the magic of this primal simplicity, the return to nature, simplicity, and homeliness. The hosts love to take time for a chat and are happy to explain how to combine pleasant recreation with a walk to the bakery if you crave fresh bread. There are also many paths in the surroundings that you can explore on foot or by bike, and there is also the option of an adventure by canoeing down the Kolpa.

While enjoying a cold drink on the house terrace or cooling off in the pleasantly warm Kolpa, you can watch the lady Heron, who carefully guards her water territory. If your dream vacation is in the middle of a meadow, where in spring and early summer it’s truly peaceful, and you might forget that you are on a campsite, then this is the right location for a Bela Krajina Robinson-like retreat.

As lovers of colder water, we skipped swimming in the Kolpa, and even our bikes stayed under the tree (not used for a trip as initially planned), but instead, we improvised with a shower, rested a lot, and once again realized that in the fast-paced world of instant solutions, buttons, and sensors for everything, we still (and every time anew) enjoy most the meadow in the middle of nowhere, where for basic physiological needs or a jug of water, you have to take a long walk, where you go to bed with the sunset and wake up with the first rays of the sun.

An experience we will certainly gladly repeat.
