It is still a campsite, that for sure :D,  but  it feels like a small village community setting. We were looking for a place to stay for two nights only and this was the only one in the area with this option available. We fell in love instantly… especially the pitches that make you feel like you are in both – a well maintained campsite and nature at the same time.

Somehow our starting point always makes a two hour drive to the destination, so this was one of them too. Travelling to the north-west of Slovenia is a great idea in the warmer part of the year  (may-september) and that is also a period when most campsites are open.

First impressions:

Well maintained, wide range of pitches to choose fom, lovely scenery around the camp.

How our stay actually went:

Coming there to check in was a surprise, as we were spoken to in English, although this is not our first language (and  neither is their’s, because we were in our home country). But the guy was really nice and it was a funny moment for all three of us. 

At the time of our arrival at the end of the season  in the beginning of September there was a lot of pitches to choose from. Just around the center of the camp, where you find lovely and clean bathroom facilities, dishwashing sinks, a coffee machine and dumping station, there are tent pitches (with or without your car next to it), then a little bigger ones for the RVs. But on the other side of the camp, that is closer to river Soča, there are larger pitches, separated with wooden fences and it feels like a ranch, because – guess what – there is one right in there. The camp in this area is surrounded by tall spruce trees,  you can find a lovely fireplace with benches to sit arround (just like in american family camping movies) and a narrow path leading straight to the alpine cold Soča river. The stream is low and fast, so swimming in this area is  not possible, but if you like cold dips like us, it’s going to be a perfect spot. However, most of the pitches are straight in the sunlight, so if you’re not planning to hike or explore, make sure you pick one in the shade.

Pitching a tent was a piece of cake, it felt like we had a whole campsite to ourselves. Almost no neighbours around and even if they were, everyone was very private and not all over the place – stuffwise or noisewise.

Our mornings always start with an aromatic cup of coffee and this time was no exception. We slept great, because the nights can be quite chilly. Humid air at night is also one of the geographical characteristics in the area, so be prepared for that, too.  The mandatory cold water dip in Soča was followed by breakfast eggs. Lovely!

We usually have our own food to cook on the spot, especially breakfast, but sometimes we just like to be served a cooked meal for  lunch or dinner. There is a  restaurant with very classic restaurant menu (barbeque, potato side dishes, salads, wiener schnitzel etc…) about 5 minute walk from the Camp Triglav. 

The evening vibe of the campsite is very calm. Everyone wearing their pyjamas, carrying their vanity bags and towels to the bathroom facilities to wrap up the day. 

Before the night falls you can enjoy wonderful sunset on the slopes of the mountains surrounding  the camp.

Overall experience: 

The camp really doesn’t seem crowded, although there are usually quite a few guests. The vibe is quiet and calm, everyone says hi when they pass you and the path through the camp has discreet lights hidden on the sides, so you can walk safely to the pitch. It is one of our favourite destinations and we like coming back.
