Camp Lazar, Kobarid

Campsite Lazar Kobarid

Tourist center with two worlds

We visited tourist center with a camp in northwestern part of Slovenia, just outside Kobarid. Camp with 250 camping places and just a few steps from beautiful river Soča.

Two worlds in one campsite

Our camping adventures and pitching a tent have probably started for real when visiting Kamp Lazar in Kobarid. Our visit to the  beloved part of Slovenia has now become one of those memories, where we can easily laugh at your rookie moments 😉

FIrst impressions:

cute, resort-like, crowded

How our stay really went:

At first sight, the campsite seems pretty crowded, packed with vans, RVs and people. Their reception/restaurant facility looks very… hm… “Bali” inspired, but the food is pretty much dishes from local ingredients and you should definitely give it a try. This is the centre of the camp at it has this resort type of vibe. The staff mailny speaks English, because they are students on international exchange or seasonal workers, but are quite kind. Their loose directions weren’t very helpful to get round the camp easily.

However, the first time we were visiting, we had this cute borrowed tent that supposed to be for 3 people, but it hardly fitted the two of us, so we were offered “the other side” of the camp. The one, that is placed in the middle of a meadow on the edge of the forrest and pitches can be  chosen quite deliberately.

We pitched the tent, settled everything and made hot cacao. This is one of our favourite rituals to do in the evening. Sitting in front of the tent in warm socks and enjoying the camp scenery – young people playing with a ball, a family packing their big tent for the next adventure, someone walking their dog or taking their dishes to be washed. When the sky got dark blue and the stars started to light up, we knew it was going to be a lovely night. Regardless our very basic and frugal equipment, we had a nice sleep and woke up into a humid morning  (as typical for the area).  A walk to bathroom facilities is an actual 4 minute walk, so don’t forget a torch for midnight strolls 🙂 The camp meadow offers a lot of space and it’s not reserved just for the tents. Peaceful nights can prompt a slight sensation of camping in the middle of nowhere and although just across the road from the “resort-vibe”, your camping experince is going to be on fleek.

The restaurant itself also has an interesting ordering system, so make sure you take a minute or two and just observe everyone… drinks are usually available to order at the bar, the food is served at certain hours only.

Overall experince:

It was a nice stay, but it was not our favourite, to be honest. Overall it’s a nice campsite and people from all over Europe seem to like it a lot. We haven’t come back yet to give it another try or for it to be a starting point to so some hiking paths you can find around there.
