If you didn’t know already, Slovenia really is something special naturalwise. From mountains, hills, lakes, sea, rivers, valleys and yes – spa. And not just any spa, a natural spa! Despite us being cold water fans, this natural spa in Dolenjska region was on our list for quite long. And just after New year, on a beautiful sunny Thursday we decided to take a swim in naturally warm water of 23*C.

Natural spa Klevevž is located in the southeast of Slovenia, a few minutes drive from Novo mesto. There is a big parking lot amongst the vineyards  once you get there, which is easy, following the signs. If you want to get to the lovely spot, you’ll have to take a 5min walk to the water. A little downhill at first and can bi a little muddy after rain. White sneakers are certainly not a wise choice of footwear. Once the path gets smoother, you can already enjoy the view of a cute waterfall, that turns into a little pool and later flows on as a little stream with cold water.  As walking towards the water there is a hot spring pool on the left. It’s  a small one, but the water is warm for sure and you can see the thermal bubbles coming from the ground. There are two benches where you can put your stuff, jump into swimming suit but don’t jump into the water, because it’s shallow and the rocks are very slippery too.  Without a doubt, we had to try both sides, the cold and the warm water. No clear idea about the temperature, but we figure it was around 5 or 6 degrees. After spending a few minutes there, we got out and slowly emerged into the warm pool with crystal clear water. 

Unfortunately, there was no bar in the nearby, however the portable toilets are near and a little wooden changing wall too. People who are visiting the site are very talkative, the ones that come to get in to the water and also the other ones who are just there to take photos.

We brought our breakfast, coffee and tea along, but we were so distracted by the natural place that we almost forgot to eat and enjoy the warm beverages.

When we got back to the van, we ate our usual brunch, eggs had a sip of mate, a cup of coffee and enjoyed a warm day in the sun.
