A well-marked trail through forested paths
The winter light gave the landscape a unique charm
On a bright, crisp winter morning, we set off for Sveta Ana, a hilltop near Ribnica known for its peaceful atmosphere and expansive views. The hike starts just outside the town, near the Ribnica Sports Park, and follows a well-marked trail through forested paths and snow-dusted meadows. It’s about 5 kilometers to the top, and with a steady, moderate climb, the route is manageable for most hikers, even in snowy conditions.
The snow crunched underfoot as we walked, the cold air sharp but refreshing. The trail gradually winds upward, offering occasional glimpses of the Ribnica Valley below. Along the way, the winter light gave the landscape a unique charm, casting long shadows across the ground and making the scenery feel even more serene. Good boots were essential here, as some sections of the path were slippery with snow and ice.
After about an hour, we reached the summit and the small Sveta Ana Chapel, perched quietly at the top. The chapel, though simple, added to the tranquil beauty of the spot. From here, the views were stunning—snow-covered fields and hills stretched out in every direction, with the valley and Ribnica itself visible in the distance. It’s the kind of place that invites you to pause, take a deep breath, and enjoy the calm.
The descent was easier, winding gently back through the woods. The changing light as the sun moved lower in the sky gave a fresh perspective to the trail. We passed a few scattered farmhouses, their chimneys puffing smoke into the cold air, a reminder of the quiet rural life that thrives in this area. The full hike, including stops to enjoy the views, took about 2.5 hours.
For anyone planning this hike, warm clothing is essential in winter, and sturdy hiking boots with good grip are a must for the snow and ice. It’s also worth bringing water and a camera to capture the views along the way. While this trail is enjoyable year-round, winter offers a special stillness that makes the experience even more rewarding.
The hike to Sveta Ana is simple yet satisfying, perfect for anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful walk through the Slovenian countryside. It’s an experience that leaves you feeling connected to the quiet beauty of the landscape, making it a perfect day trip from Ribnica.
