water, tree and Falls
Not really hidden, but not even well known, there is a place above the village of Gabrje near Tolmin.
There are people, who know about this place and visit it on weekly basis. Others, even if they live in the nearby, have never heard about it.
A sip of refreshment in the woods
Count’s water, the Elm tree and Sopotnica Falls
Looking for places to visit while staying in Kobarid was not an easy task. So many beautiful places, so many corners we have never been to and so many stunning waterfalls that keep being unseen because others are so support by tourism industry.
We wanted an easy hike for the early start of the season (in February) and we got one, along with beautiful blooming harbingers of spring – the snowdrops and primrose greeting us almost all the way.
The weather was perfect, just enough warm to keep us warm in the sun and just fresh enough so we didn’t have to take off our midlayer.
Even though the nature has not fully recovered from the previous summer storms and the path is a little damaged on some spots, after about 30 minutes you reach the spring with water that is believed to have some healing properties. Tasting it, definitely is a tasty spring water, which is totally different (of course) from the tap water, we can confirm that it might have some healing properties, as we didn’t feel as tired and we certainly felt refreshed.
Just next to the spring, that can actually be very crowded (it is an easy hike, families love it too) there is a tree, a special Elm tree with the trunk diameter 81 cm and also the height of the elm is exceptional, namely 39 m. The water from the spring flows right under that tree and enriches it with energy. The elm with its positive energy is said to have a strong impact on all seven chakras. The place is really calm and vibrant at the same time.
If you managed to read through this long text, then read about the waterfall just near the spring. In the middle of the path, leading to the Count’s water, you can turn off the path and you will find a path that leads you to a beautiful waterfall, the Sopotnice. Sitting on the bench just next to the wooden bridge that connects the hiking paths can enchant you with beautiful energy of this waterfall. We’ve managed to take some nice photos you can check out here and we’ve also had some adventurous moments, as our drone fell into the river bed and of course, had to be found. We do not recommend it, just stick to the path and enjoy the views 🙂
