Waterfall above Bina Rock

Slap nad Bino Skalo

The waterfall in the Tolmin area is about 12 meters high

The waterfall suddenly appears when the terrain opens up. The best part is that you can actually walk behind the curtain of water, which is a pretty special feeling.

The trail isn’t a very well maintained walking path, but that’s part of the charm.

If you take the right turn, you’ll find it without too much trouble, and it’s definitely worth it in the end.

Not far from Čiginj, a village near Tolmin, we visited the waterfall above Bina Rock, which is fairly well known in the area, but you still have to “find” it a bit since the trail isn’t clearly marked.

The waterfall is about 12 meters high. The water first drops over a steep rock face and then slides down into a pool below. A few meters further downstream, there’s another smaller waterfall, around 6 meters high, so it actually forms a nice little waterfall system.

We parked in front of the village of Čiginj and continued on foot. The trail starts above the Ti inn, where you turn right along the fence by the garden. At first, we went straight by mistake and quickly got off track, wandering through the forest. We did stumble upon a smaller waterfall along the stream, but that wasn’t the right one.

Once we found the correct path near the last house, it was pretty straightforward from there. The trail isn’t really marked well, but it’s easy enough to follow. There are a few fallen trees here and there, but nothing too bad. At one point there’s even a sign pointing toward the waterfall above Bina Rock, and down to the right toward the Hutajle waterfall.

The waterfall suddenly appears when the terrain opens up. The best part is that you can actually walk behind the curtain of water, which is a pretty special feeling. There’s also a bench there and a simple outdoor exercise bar.

We had a drone with us as well, and the view from above was honestly amazing — you can see the whole waterfall and the gorge of the stream.

The trail isn’t a proper maintained walking path, but that’s part of the charm. If you take the right turn, you’ll find it without too much trouble, and it’s definitely worth it in the end.
