Savica, brilliantly placed to charm the visitors
A majestic waterfall near Lake Bohinj, a renown tourist location and beloved trail for hiking.
Hike first, eat later
456 stairs to…
Yes, you read it correctly, there is about 450 stairs in the middle of a hill and through a forest to get you to a majestic waterfall and a porch with a view over Lake Bohinj or if we say it with other words – as far as your eye can see.
Waterfall Savica is one of the most known in the area of Bohinj. It is also A-shaped and about 78m high. Its name is also used in some poetry and we can only imagine what sort of historical mysteries it keeps.
We will let you enjoy the waterfall by yourself, but take this piece of advice from us: there are two ways to get there – one is a road that gets you to a mountain shelter that is also a restaurant and you can reach it by any vehicle. Once you park there, do not grab a meal there just yet, go see the waterfall first, because it’s quite an ascent – the stairs will take you about 20 minutes to get there. The other way to get there is for an easy hike and a little longer to walk, but we loved it. We only grabbed some coffee on the way down, but returned for a late lunch the next day.
There is a famous camp Bohinj in the nearby and we recommend taking the
themed route called Golden Horn’s Fairytale path, which is also amazing for children.
